2020* Season Review
The Rams broke through for their first Atlantic 10 Championship appearance since 2010, earning the #4 seed after a 5-3 record in conference play. Fordham fell to top seed and eventual champion Dayton, but solidified itself among the upper echelon of the league. Senior McKenna Lahr was named to the All-Championship team, and later became the program’s first-ever CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree, wrapping up a fantastic four year run in maroon and white. Whitley Moody was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, as well as First Team All-Conference and the program’s first AVCA All-Region selection, after leading the team with 132 kills at an even 4.0 per set, second-most in a season in school history, while classmate Isabel Fichtel led the nation with 1.93 blocks per set, shattering the previous program record. Libero Mallory Lipski’s 5.31 digs per set also became the second-highest mark at Fordham.
As a result of their effort in the spring, the Rams have been predicted by the league’s head coaches to repeat their fourth-place finish in the annual preseason poll, the highest Fordham has ever finished in it, besting the previous high of sixth in 2009. Fordham lost Lahr to graduation but returns every other starter and all but three graduating seniors that include Lahr, Alena Cashdan, and Sophia Plett. Meanwhile, third-year head coach Ian Choi added four Class of 2025 freshman to the fold.
VB Earns AVCA Team Academic Award
For the second straight year and third time in the last four, the Rams earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic award for programs with a cumulative 3.3 GPA or higher.
